RESUMEN: La cultura es un elemento inherente a cada integrante de la sociedad y conforma su expresión

vital de la cual no puede sustraerse. Dentro de esto, el cine incluye la realización dinámica de todas las artes,

siendo un fenómeno cultural que contiene en sí mismo expresiones creativas de la sociedad. Este artículo

hace un breve recorrido por las distintas etapas del cine ecuatoriano, donde se destaca el cine documental

etnográfico. También analiza los desafíos que tiene el Nuevo Cine Ecuatoriano para lograr representar el

complejo carácter plurinacional y etnorracial del país.

ABSTRACT: Culture is an element inherent to each member of society and forms its vital expression from

which it cannot be evaded. Within this, the cinema includes the dynamic realization of all the arts, being a

cultural phenomenon that contains in itself creative expressions of society. This article makes a brief tour of the

different stages of Ecuadorian cinema, where ethnographic documentary film stands out. It also analyzes the

challenges facing the New Ecuadorian Cinema in order to represent the complex plurinational and ethnoracial

character of the country.
