RESUMEN: En el artículo se analiza, primero, la naturaleza histórica de la

noción de desarrollo como crecimiento económico y su condición de pieza

clave en la hegemonía del capital. Segundo; a partir de la perspectiva que

plantea el análisis se exponen las condiciones históricas concretas que

llevaron al surgimiento del concepto de Desarrollo Sostenible, la idea que

subyacía en sus artífices de hacer compatibles crecimiento y progreso

social y las inconsistencias que mostró, como idea, en la realidad que

pretendía cambiar. Sin embargo, al final se aprecia que, aun con sus

desaciertos como concepto, debe reconocerse las perspectivas que abrió a

la realidad internacional, más allá de los propósitos iniciales de sus artífices,

de allí que sea más oportuno asumirlo desde el pensamiento crítico que

sustituirlo por otra noción.

ABSTRACT: The article first analyzes the historical nature of the notion of

development as economic growth and its status as key player in the

hegemony of capital. Second; from the perspective posed by the anal ysis of

specific historical conditions that led to the emergence of the concept of

sustainable development are presented, the idea that underlay its creators

to reconcile growth and social progress and inconsistencies that showed, as

an idea, in the He sought to change reality. However, in the end we see that,

even with its failures as a concept, the prospects opened to international

reality must be recognized beyond the original intentions of its creators,

hence it is more appropriate to assume from critical thinking to replace on

the other notion.
