Summary

Is there a right to have a genetic identity? Traditionally, the answer to that question is

yes, but the present text tries to show that this conclusion is only correct when we talk about

adult human beings. However, in the case of clones, one cannot speak of this type of right,

but of a right not to live. is means that the laws must include the recognition of this right,

if they do not want their cloning prohibitions to lose their meaning.

e tremendous advances of molecular biology and genetics in understanding the me-

chanisms of life provide a great perspective closer to science ction. On the one hand, they

raise expectations for pain relief, and on the other hand, now that humans can switch

species, they raise a lot of questions about their application. e use of science or technology

applied to embryos presents ethical and legal dilemmas about dignity and rights. erefore,

it is in the public interest to establish limits regarding in vitro embryos for the responsible

management of embryos.
