RESUMEN: Durante 2015-2019, Centroamérica alcanzó un Producto Interno Bruto promedio de 3,6 %,

superior al de América Latina. Este crecimiento económico particulariza más de cien años de un desempeño

macroeconómico “positivo” nada despreciable, al tiempo que sitúa la implicación de la geopolítica en ello. El

presente trabajo caracteriza las tendencias del crecimiento en la subregión, mediante las variables Producto

Interno Bruto e Inversión Extranjera Directa, con un enfoque integral desde la economía política, que muestra

su dependencia de Estados Unidos como pivote de crecimiento mientras crecen la desigualdad social, la

violencia y la migración.

ABSTRACT: During 2015-2019 Central America reached an average Gross Domestic Product of 3,6 %,

higher than of Latin America. This economic growth shows particularizes more than one hundred years of a

positive macroeconomic performance that is not inconsiderable while at the same time placing the implication

of geopolitics in it. The present article characterizes the growth trends in the sub region through means

variables such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Direct Foreign Investment an integral focus of political

economy, showing its dependence toward the U.S like pivot of growth while it grows the social inequality,

violence and migration.
